Reactive Energy Compensation in Wind Power Plants.

CONVENTIONAL TECHNIQUE  
- Regulation by means of capacitors.
- Discontinuous regulation.
- Low accuracy in the regulation.
- High currents in the capacitors connections.
- Instantaneous Voltage Distortions coinciding with these connections.
- Risk of LC resonance with the grid  inductances in case of low grid short circuit power.

CURRENT INJECTION BY MEANS OF IGBT STATIC CONVERTERS
- Continuous regulation.
- Response time of 20ms.
- Absolute accuracy (pf=1).
- Absence of overcurrents, distortions and grid disturbances.
- No risk of resonance.
- Permits the connection of any Wind Power Plant to any grid.

ADVANTAGES UPON TRADITIONAL SOLUTIONS WITH CAPACITORS OR THYRISTORS
- The power is compensated without interruptions.
- Peaks due to the connection of capacitors, wave distortions and harmonic currents in the connection do not exist.
- There is no risk of LC resonance with the grid impedance, and therefore there is no limit on the reactive power to compensate even in case the grid is weak.

APPLICATIONS
- Reactive compensation in Wind Power Plants without power limitation with units working in parallel.
- Reactive compensation of variable inductive loads connected to weak grids.
